CARDIFF TECHNOLOGY

In most higher end water proof fabrics, the water is kept out by making the micro pores smaller than water droplets.  The smaller the pores, the more waterproof.  The problem is: if the pores are too small, moisture has a hard time escaping thus making the garment a “sweat suit”.

In addition to the water permeability, most water proof garments have a coating on the surface that attempts to shed water so that it doesn’t soak in the outer layer making the garment heavy.  This coating is referred to as the “Durable Water Resistant” coating or DWR.

We use a 3 layer fabric which consists of an outer layer of poly/spandex, an inner membrane to protect from water penetration, and a base fabric on the inside to be comfortable against the skin.  In contrast with many other membranes, our membrane is absent of pores, so there is nothing to get clogged up.  The fabric is “hydrophilic, which—simply put– means that there are tiny molecules with a strong affinity to water in the membrane that transport moisture to the outside.  These hydrophilic molecules move more quickly through the membrane at higher temperatures, regardless of whether it’s the surrounding temperature or your body temperature that is high.

Our fabric is made of polyurethane and thus 100% recyclable.  It is much more environmentally friendly than other membranes.  The DWR coatings that were used in the past by most manufacturers was deemed too strong for the environment and required to be watered down so many DWR coatings don’t hold up after numerous washings creating more “wetting out” or soaking of the outer layer.  We use a new technology that withstands many washings.

WHAT MAKES CARDIFF FABRIC SO SPECIAL?

Our fabric has a waterproof rating of over 20,000mm.  That’s really good because the minimum to call a fabric waterproof is 5,000mm.  Many other of our competitors use this "cheaper" fabric.  In other words, with CARDIFF you won’t get wet!

In order to be active, stay dry, and not sweat, we boast a high level of breathability, as well.  This is measured by determining how many grams of water vapor can pass through on square meter of fabric within 24 hours.  We lead the pack in this category with a breathability rating of 15,000 grams/24hours.

Another advantage of Cardiff fabric is in how it feels to wear and how easy it allows the wearer to move freely.  The fabric is stretchable in all directions.  So, not only is the fabric comfortable and robust, it will also give you the mobility you need for outdoor activities.  Thanks to the very thin and soft membrane, our garments feel great against the skin.

OUR DESIGN PROCESS BEGINS WITH SELECTION OF THE BEST FABRIC AVAILABLE IN TERMS OF EFFECTIVENESS, COMFORT, AND

DURABILITY.  FROM THERE WE ADD STYLE, FIT, AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL.  THE END RESULT IS A PRODUCT THAT DOES THE JOB IN ALL CATEGORIES AND IS ENJOYABLE TO WEAR.  WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU COULD SAY THAT YOUR WATERPROOF GARMENTS WERE ENJOYABLE TO WEAR?
